Foamed PVC (also known under the trade name Forex) is a lightweight plastic with a uniform, fine-cell foamed structure, giving a smooth, matte surface without the need for additional finishing. Compared to rigid PVC it is much lighter and easier to process, but has lower mechanical strength — which is why it is used where weight and cost matter, rather than maximum stiffness or load resistance.
The material is moisture-resistant, does not absorb water and copes well with changing weather conditions, which makes it a popular choice for short- and medium-term outdoor advertising. The surface takes UV print, lacquering and film wrapping well, and a uniform colour throughout the cross-section (most often white) makes it easy to mill letters and graphics without visible edge discolouration.
Processing and cutting to size
We cut foamed PVC to size on routing plotters, which allows letters, shapes and mounting holes to be cut precisely in a single process. The material is very easy to work with — it drills, mills, glues and heat-bonds easily — which reduces production time and cost compared to stiffer plastics. Lightweight panel cutting.
How to choose foamed PVC thickness
For advertising letters and light elements 3–5 mm is enough. Advertising boards and display bases usually require 10–19 mm for adequate stiffness without supports. Very thick sheets (up to 30 mm) are used in mock-ups, architectural models and structures requiring high stiffness while keeping low weight. Foam PVC colour chart.
