Solid polycarbonate cut to size is one of the toughest transparent materials on the market. The solid PC sheet (also called monolithic polycarbonate) has a uniform, full structure — unlike multiwall polycarbonate, which is built from air channels. This gives solid polycarbonate full clarity and much greater mechanical resistance, while the multiwall variant favours light weight and thermal insulation. Compared to acrylic (PMMA), polycarbonate is markedly more impact-resistant and shatterproof, though acrylic remains harder on the surface and cheaper — the choice depends on whether safety or aesthetics and cost are the priority.

What makes this material stand out are its concrete properties. Solid polycarbonate has impact resistance around 200 times higher than glass, which in practice means it is nearly indestructible under typical operating conditions — hence the colloquial name "unbreakable sheet". It retains transparency of up to 90%, works across a wide temperature range from −40°C to +120°C, and is self-extinguishing, meaning it does not sustain a flame. Sheets with two-sided UV protection do not yellow or become brittle under sunlight, making them suitable for outdoor use for many years.

Processing and cutting to size

Solid polycarbonate is easy to process, which sets it apart from glass and allows precise fitting to a project. We cut sheets to size with an accuracy of ±1 mm, drill mounting holes, and prepare elements with non-standard shapes. The material can be cold-bent into a gentle curve — while respecting the minimum bend radius given by the manufacturer for the given thickness — which works well for curved canopies and covers. At higher temperatures polycarbonate also lends itself to thermoforming. Cut-to-size material arrives ready for installation, without needing further on-site processing. How to choose solid polycarbonate thickness

Choosing the thickness is a compromise between strength, weight and price. Thinner sheets (e.g. 2–4 mm) are enough for splash guards, partitions and light glazing, where clarity and low weight matter. Thicker variants (from 6 mm up to 10 mm and more) are used where rigidity and impact resistance are key — in burglar-resistant glazing, machine guards or canopies with larger spans. When choosing, it's worth considering support spacing, wind and snow load, and the required bend radius. If you're not sure which variant will be optimal, describe the application to us — we'll match the thickness to the real operating conditions.

At PLEXIPOL you can buy solid polycarbonate cut to size for your project, without paying extra for standard formats. We have been operating since 1995 as a distributor and processor of plastics, serving both B2B customers and retail orders. We offer technical advice on material and thickness selection, cutting with an accuracy of ±1 mm, drilling and element preparation, and delivery to the address you specify. We cut sheets up to a 205 × 305 cm format, and the price is set individually based on thickness, quantity and processing scope.

Examples of applications

  • Terrace and carport roofing — light, light-transmitting covers resistant to hail and snow load.
  • Skylights and roof glazing — daylighting of rooms while keeping high strength and UV protection.
  • Machine guards and safety barriers — transparent protection of work areas compliant with safety requirements.
  • Acoustic screens — transparent roadside and industrial panels that dampen sound without losing visibility.
  • Burglar-resistant glazing — panes very hard to break through for doors, windows and display counters.
  • Splash and hygiene screens — partitions in catering, service points and laboratories.
  • Partition walls — light, safe fillings in offices, halls and retail premises.
  • Display and POS elements — showcases, guards and exhibition structures resistant to damage.
  • Structural elements and industrial guards — parts exposed to impact loads where glass fails.
